All members must be aware that the Comittee is in the process of reviewing the Constitution. This is a significant evejnt in the life of a club and must be taken seriously, and must be done in accordance with the existing rules, even if those rules may be changed as a result.

I encourage everyone to read and think about the changes. The comittee exists not to "manage" the club but to "facillitate" the club's activities. The rules are there in part to ensure it does so.

I have a real concern over the clause which covers election of Officers, especially 5.1(c) which has the potential to allow a committee to elect itself for life. It must be deleted and replaced with a statement which is more realistic. I urge the Comittee and members to think very carefully about this clause.

Another safety clause is usual which limits the term, typically two years. I recommend this clause (part of 7c in the current constitution) be reinstated.

Maurice,

I agree changing or making amendments to a constitution is a significant event, also one that needs input from all members.

The Draft Constitution has been taken directly from The Ministry of Economic Development sample set of rules for an incorporated society, with changes to suit our club.

The Committe does manage the club affairs within the Rules of the Constitution and are held accountable by the Members.

With regard to your concerns to election of Officers, you have missed the most important point, it is the Members not the Committee that make the appointments and set Terms.  If members decide at each Annual General Meeting that the term of Office is one year, than the elected Committee stay for one year.  The purpose of having some flexability is to have continuance within the Committee.
