3D-printed plane takes flight

In this world first, a 3D-printed plane created by blasting lasers at plastic dust successfully completes its maiden flight. Jim Scanlan of the University of Southampton and his team designed and built the plane in one week. The printer grows the parts in one take, with no assembly or fasteners required even for moving pieces.
